Thoughts from Deacon Russ
This week you will receive a brochure detailing the Called and Sent program our parish will be participating in over the next few weeks. This informative brochure is intended to communicate the financial needs of our parish and why we are having a dedicated focus on our parish offertory. Commitment Sunday for this Program is next weekend, February 25 and 26. We encourage all parishioners to spend time in prayer and discussion with your family reflecting on the parish’s needs and your current level of giving. We look forward to seeing all of our parishioners at Mass next weekend for this very important Commitment Sunday. If you have any questions regarding the Called and Sent Program please feel free to contact me at the parish office.

YOUR BODY IS A TEMPLE OF GOD—In today’s second reading, Saint Paul tells us, “Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” So, the question we each should ask is: “Do I treat my body like a temple of God?” Do I have eating, drinking, pornography, tobacco or drug habits or addictions that are tearing apart my temple? Lent is coming up, and it is a good time to take stock of how we treat our temples. Maybe we can all resolve to treat our temples a little better. I was talking to a parishioner the other day who was saying that her whole family was going to try and eat healthier in an effort to lose some excess weight. Even if one is not overweight, perhaps a healthier diet could be established. The frequency of diabetes has been on the rise for years, but it can be controlled to some extent by a change in eating habits and, if needed, a loss of some weight. Regardless of what habit you would like to change, it will take work and prayer. We need to allow the Holy Spirit to work in us that we may prepare a suitable temple for God.

SAINT PAUL STREET EVANGELIZATION—My introduction to street evangelization last Saturday was great! It’s as simple as offering folks on the street a Rosary or a Miraculous Metal. We will also have information concerning Catholic beliefs and practices, and even some to correct common misconceptions. So, who’s in? If you would like to help; let me know. I need companions. We’re sailing into uncharted territory, but it’s okay; God is with us. Can you spare an hour or two? The weather has been pretty nice as of late; it will soon be time to hit the streets. If you are interested, please give me a call.

ROSARY MAKERS—Since we will be handing out rosaries, we need a good supply. Would you like to learn how to make them? They are fairly easy to make with a little dexterity of the hands. If you would like to learn how to make them, give me a call, and I will hook you up with someone who can teach you. I know a few folks that once they have learned crank out 20, 30, 40 or 50 rosaries a week.

LENTEN SERIES: RATTLE DEACON RUSS—Beginning on Ash Wednesday and continuing through the Wednesdays of Lent, it was suggested we have a forum where you can submit questions, and I answer them according to what the Church teaches. In order to give me a little preparation time, we would like your questions in advance. Please use the backs of the prayer cards found in the pews. Write down your question, and drop it in the collection, or you can go here: surveymonkey.com/r/BWZLLLK to submit your question electronically. Then come to our Wednesday evening gatherings beginning with Mass at 6:00, a light soup supper following, then time for questions and answers.

CLARITY FUNDRAISING DINNER—On February 23rd Clarity (formally Pregnancy Care Center) is hosting Believe in Restoration:2017 Fundraising Banquet. It is from 7-9 at the Clarion. There is no cost but they ask for a donation. A meal will be served at the beginning with impactful information about Clarity after the meal. Here is the web site to register: https://secure.ministrysync.com/ministrysync/event/home.php?e=13073 Your group host, if you would like to join her, is Cathy Shehan. The banquet is at the Clarion, 2480 Jonathon Moore Pike, Columbus. You can contact Cathy at 812-3908308 if you have questions. At this time, she has 5 seats remaining.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST—Mark your calendars now for the annual pancake breakfast sponsored by the youth to take place on Palm Sunday, April 9, after Mass. While we hope to raise a little money to help offset the cost of the various youth activities we have planned for this year, we more importantly hope that people have fun and meet folks they have not met.
